Danville, Va. – It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Mrs. Martha Long Terry Swann of 817 Stokes St. Danville, Va., who passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late George Hill Long and Virginia Gunn Long born October 4, 1919 in Caswell County, NC. She was a homemaker.
She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and became a member of New Elizabeth Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. After relocating back to Danville, VA., she rejoined her home church Sassafras Grove Baptist Church, where she was the oldest member of the church.
In addition to her parents and husbands, James Terry and Olander Swann, she was preceded in death by six sons, Augusta, Kenneth, Barney, James, John, Huston Terry; one daughter, Helen Terry; six brothers, Herbert, Theodore, Clarence, James, Spence, and Willie Long; six sisters, Russell Taylor, Mary Walters, Frances Weatherford, Catherine Turner, Hattie Watlington, Effie Davis, and Darlene Long.
Survivors are: son, Albert Terry of Danville, VA; four daughters, Catherine Marie Higginbotham (Lee) of Baltimore, MD, Ann (Puttin) Terry of Danville, VA, Betty Lou Jones (Bob) of Danville, VA, and Constance Moore of Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Carolyn Lea of Blanch, NC and Estella Jeffries of Reidsville, NC; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
