Blanch, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Corene Jean Lownes Madden, of 1855 High Rock School Road, who died Monday, June 19, 2017, at Alamance Healthcare Nursing Facility in Burlington, NC.

Jean was born a native of Caswell County, NC to the late Deacon Willie Howard Sr. and Cora Maria Long Lownes.

Jean was educated in the Caswell County Public School System; where she graduated as class Valor Victorian (Valedictorian). Her education continued to flourish at Bennett College located in Greensboro, NC; and at the Harlem Hospital School of Nursing; where Jean, received her Registered Nursing (RN) degree. Jean pushed through many barriers where she was the second black Registered Nurse employed in 1969 at Danville Memorial Hospital located in Danville, VA.  Some of her pastimes were working with people and seeing their health improve.

Jean married the love of her life John Robert Madden, on June 02, 1973.  To their union of 44 years, they had two beloved children, Jeneen and Michael.

Jean accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church in Yanceyville, NC.  She later moved her membership to New Zion Baptist Church in Milton, NC where her love continued to flourish for her church, family and community as she full-filled her calling as a Church Clerk, Assistant Church Clerk, a Mass Choir Member, and Youth Committee Chairperson. After her husband’s death, Jean joined her family church at High Rock Baptist Church in Blanch, NC, where she served on their Kitchen Committee.

In addition to Jean’s parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Robert Madden, and three brothers, Dr. Robert Lownes, Sr., Willie H. Lownes, Jr., and Elbert Vinson Lownes.
